Course Overview

Royal Tara boasts a mature 27-hole golf complex set in rolling parkland.  The course was extended from 9 to 13 holes in 1966, and from 13 to 18 holes in 1969. A further 9 holes was added in the late 1980’s.  Some of the more recent enhancements include making Royal Tara a more pollinator-friendly course with the inclusion of more meadow areas.  A 5-year bunker reconstruction and remodelling project commenced in 2023.

The main competition course was opened in 1995, designed by renowned Europe Tour Professional Des Smyth.  It consists of the Cluide (Blue) (named after the Cluide wood through which the course runs) and the Tara (Red) nines.  The Bellinter (Yellow) nine is the back nine of the old course.

Royal Tara Golf Club was the venue for the All Ireland Cups and Shields Final in 2013 and the Ladies All Ireland Championship in 2009.  It has staged many other Youth Internationals and Championship events over time and was named Leinster’s Best Parkland Course by Golfer’s Guide to Ireland in 2023.
