Newsam Cup

The Captain Newsam Perpetual Cup

The Captain Newsam Perpetual Cup is an annual inter-club competition, organised by Royal Tara for clubs in the North Leinster region. The Cup was presented by Lady Mountcharles in memory of her husband, Captain C. W. Newsam who had been a member of the Club for many years. The Cup was first played for in 1967 when Rush Golf Club were the winners. County Louth, with seven wins, has the most success to date in this very popular competition which traditionally was a foursomes matchplay for players with a WHS Handicap Index of 18.0 or greater.  In 2023 the format is changing to fourball on a trial basis.
